View Full Version : Brakes squeaking on Mercedes E320? Help? VAL 01-05-2009, 03:19 AM The brakes on my Mercedes E320 have been squeaking terribly, every time they are used they make a loud squeaking noise, what can I do? rider 01-05-2009, 03:20 AM JIM K is right you need new brake pads oh yeah and JOHN the ase master tech is just trying to sell rotors just pads will do as long as the rivet in the pad hasnt eaten into more than 15% of either surface (back or front) of the rotor sexy Liano 01-05-2009, 03:21 AM your sensors are touching. They tell you you need brakes.take it in to a muffler/brake shop ask for free estimate and you let them do the inspection and they will show you what you need then do it your self.get older work smarter.wink Rooker 01-05-2009, 03:22 AM I bet you that those are semi-metallic brake pads. Semi-metallic brake pads tend to make noise, even when they're kind of new, because of the semi-metal design--and especially when the metal heats up do to excessive driving--and also, when the pads make contact with another metal surface like the disc. Metal to metal creates noise, and when those pads get worn out, the noise worsen. The best thing to do, is replace those brake pads with quality ceramic brake pads. It has ceramic material--no metal--that doesn't create sound, even when the pad has being in use for awhile. Added point: Your vehicle only needs pads. But if it's a scrubing sound then that's a sign of bad rotors, which need replacing. a.i. 01-05-2009, 03:27 AM i would get new brakes to be on the safe side John 01-05-2009, 03:29 AM You'll need new rotors and pads, make sure to order wear sensors also. Mercedes rotors because of the aggressive friction material (Pads) are throw aways. Rock Auto.com has the best prices. Go with an OE pad or Wagner Edge Pads and Rotors. You'll Like Them. Jim K 01-05-2009, 03:29 AM your brake pads are shot. get them changed. it's very inexpensive. also you need to have your brake system checked. my truck has rotor brakes on the back and disc on the front. each system has different components. regardless, i bet your pads are shot. brake pads only last a couple of years. they are intended to wear out. they are made out of a soft material that gardually wears out. what you are hearing is matal on metal. over time, that will etch into your discs. so, it's part of regular maintenance that you replace your brake pads. so now you know! also, you need to know that you can ruin your discs driving it that way. so get it checked asap. squeeking is not good! Abby G 01-05-2009, 03:36 AM Go and get new brakes. The squeaky noise is caused by when you are driving fast then you brake suddenly. Being on the highway alot causes squeaky brakes. Peter Guenther 01-07-2009, 03:40 PM All the experts? I would think if your pads are worn your sensor light would go on, of course some brake shops dont install them to cut corners, I would check the thickness of the pads, MB rotors usually must be replaced on the second pad change. Cars without the sensors usually have a metal tab on the pad that scrapes the rotor to alert you Mb has been using electric sensors since 85 (my first experience). Your dealer will evaluate it usually for free, when installing MB pads they use an anti squeek paste on the back of the pads and usually two or four sensors per wheel! |
