View Full Version : Upgrading '82 280SL Wheels - What Other Models Will Fit?

I have a RHD '82 280SL (imported from the UK) that currently has a set of 420SEL 14x6.5 Chrome rims fitted. The internal chrome on these rims is flaking and piercing holes in the tubes of the Europa 205/70R14 tyres that are fitted.

I'm located in Oz and there is little available in aftermarket wheels for the R107, so I've been looking at the various OEM wheel listings on eBay. I've run a heap of calculations on different rims through an ET (offset) calculator to see if they are suitable, however none are exactly the same. I'd really like to know how much offset I have to play with before I fowl the guards etc.

There is a set of E200 Kompressor rims 7x16H2E37 with tyres 205/55/16 listed, the ET calc tells me that they'd be 13mm closer on the inner and 1mm less on the outer. Would the 13mm be acceptable or would it cause problems?

What other Merc model rims, preferably alloy, are suitable for fitting to my SL?

Cheers.
