Compact premium is where it's at these days for luxury automakers, and everyone's getting on board. Audi (http://www.autoblog.com/make/audi) has the A3 (http://www.autoblog.com/model/a3), Volvo (http://www.autoblog.com/make/volvo) the C30 (http://www.autoblog.com/model/c30), BMW (http://www.autoblog.com/make/bmw) the 1 Series (http://www.autoblog.com/model/1+series), Lexus (http://www.autoblog.com/make/lexus) recently joined the party with the CT 200h (http://www.autoblog.com/model/ct+200h), and Mercedes (http://www.autoblog.com/make/mercedes-benz) is revamping its A- and B-Class (http://www.autoblog.com/2011/01/31/report-entry-level-mercedes-benz-range-to-include-coupe-suv-an/). Infiniti (http://www.autoblog.com/make/infiniti) has long been rumored to be working on a challenger of its own, and recently confirmed (http://www.autoblog.com/2011/02/07/infiniti-bringing-new-entry-level-car-concept-to-geneva/) that it will be unveiled in concept form at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show (http://www.autoblog.com/category/geneva-motor-show/) in March.

Unfortunately, little in the way of actual details were released to accompany the silhouette teaser pictured above - and when we say "little," we mean bubkes. The concept is designed to slot in below the G (http://www.autoblog.com/model/g37) line. That's about it.

Fortunately, Motor Trend has stepped in to fill in some of the blanks, citing inside sources who believe that the car will be a two-door called the Etheria (in concept form anyway, as the production model will likely go alphanumeric to fit into the rest of the range), built atop the Renault (http://www.autoblog.com/category/renault) Megane/Nissan (http://www.autoblog.com/make/nissan) Tiida platform.

The milestone, however, comes in under the hood, where the Etheria is tipped to carry a 202-horsepower, 1.8-liter turbocharged CGI four sourced from Mercedes-Benz, marking the first tangible application of the industrial partnership formed (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/04/07/officially-official-renault-nissan-and-daimler-announce-allianc/) between parent companies Daimler and the Renault-Nissan Alliance. We'll find out soon enough if MT is on the money, so stay tuned.
