Exclamation To fast when cold

Hi Guy;s
New to this forum having got me a nice 2004 1600 automatic lwb baby benz.
Apart from the choppy ride ( which i will get used to ) I am very concerned with the high revs when the engine is cold and the very strong pull from the auto box. After some 4 miles things get a lot better. What I would like to know is can the tick-over when cold be slowed down.I am sure this would make the perfect auto I have driven.

Define high tick-over?
It's normal for a cold engine to rev higher, 1,500-2,000.
On warm up, the engine will run rich and rev high to warm up quickly and safely.
