Question W169 Alternator

Help could someone confirm if this is how their W169 A Class is as I am a bit baffled?

Older cars always have a red light or battery symbol linked to alternator output. This lamp would illuminate with the ignition at first position, ie engine not started to tell you that the bulb was OK.
Start the engine and when the alternator charges the battery the lamp goes out.

Well on my car there is no initial lamp to check and it seems that only if the alternator failed while running will the battery icon appear in the info section
in centre of instrument panel.

Does anyone else with this car see a charging lamp when engine is not running?

Thanks for looking.
