The new 2017 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe

Affalterbach – 08.28.2015 – Mercedes-AMG is setting another milestone in the brand’s history: the new 2017 AMG C63 Coupe is the next step on the way to more technical and visual distinctiveness. The far-reaching technical modifications are evident at first sight: strikingly flared front and rear wheel arches, an increased track width and larger wheels give the C63 Coupe a muscular look while also providing a basis for highly agile longitudinal and lateral dynamics. The brand’s typical “Driving Performance” is also taken to new heights with the C63 Coupe. The AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine, with 469 hp in standard trim or 503 hp in the C63 S, is a completely in-house development from Affalterbach. In addition, the sophisticated AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, the set-up of the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes, the rear-axle limited-slip differential and the dynamic engine mounts have all been developed by AMG.

The C-Class is Mercedes-AMG’s best-selling model and forms the backbone of the company’s success. Since its launch in 2011, the C-Class Coupe has steadily gained significance, culminating with the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series. “The new AMG C63 Coupe embodies our conception of progress: It offers impressive longitudinal and lateral dynamics at an extremely high level along with improved fuel economy,” said Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “In addition, we are making a bold visual statement with the muscular design. Our customers can therefore experience the progress with each of their senses: seeing, hearing, feeling and, above all, driving!” The Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe will celebrate its world premiere on September 15, 2015 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) and will be available in U.S. dealers beginning in the summer of 2016.

Fascinating design visualizes outstanding performance
The Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe already fascinates at first glance with its impressive proportions. The expressive exterior design differs significantly from the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe model, which shares merely the same doors, roof and trunk lid. The powerful 8-cylinder engine, together with the increased track width on the front and rear axles, calls for a redesigned front end and a model-specific rear assembly as well as new front and rear fenders. The flared wheel arches make the AMG Coupe 2.51-inches (64 mm) wider at the front and 2.59- inches (66 mm) wider at the rear, enabling the vehicle to hug the road better.

The larger wheel arches allow the use of wider tires, up to 10 inches (255 millimeters) on the front axle and up to 11.2 inches (285 millimeters) on the rear, contributing to improved lateral acceleration, traction and agility. Under the outer skin, the body structure has been reinforced in key areas to transfer and compensate for the extreme longitudinal and lateral forces the powertrain and suspension are capable of.

The 2.36-inch (60 mm) longer aluminum hood is adorned by two distinctive power-domes, which are among the typical distinguishing features and underscore the muscular appearance. The extremely wide front section is characterized by large air inlets and precisely positioned aero flics. The low, arrow-shaped “twin blade” grill with AMG lettering visually lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity. The typical AMG “A-wing” front spoiler is three-dimensional, also serving as an air deflector for the three cooling air inlets. Additional aero flics ensure an optimal flow of air to the cooling modules, while a front splitter at the bottom of the front apron helps reduce front-axle lift.

As a result of the newly designed body on the C-Class Coupe, no compromises were required with regard to the connection of the aprons and other components; every joint and light-catching contour blends in harmoniously with the overall design. The side line of the C63 Coupe presents an entirely unique profile thanks to large wheels which finish flush with the body on the far outside and unique side skirts. In the diagonal view from behind, the muscular line from roof to shoulder via the rear quarter panel and wheel cutout looks especially impressive, lending emphasis to the impression of an intricately modeled sculpture with alternating light reflections. In typical sports car fashion, the exterior rear-view mirrors have been mounted on the door rather than on the A-pillar.

Taking its inspiration from the S-Class Coupe, the completely redesigned rear end includes a diffuser insert, a feature typically seen in the world of motor sport. The two chrome-plated twin tailpipes of the AMG exhaust system are perfectly integrated into the diffuser. The special design of the laterally positioned, optical air outlet openings improves rear air flow, allowing it to break away with aerodynamically advantageous precision. Features such as the narrow rear reflectors reinforce the impression of width. The trunk lid includes a narrow spoiler lip in the form of a sharp blade. It not only looks elegant, but also significantly reduces the rear-axle lift.

Interior with superior perceived quality
Carefully selected, high-grade materials with a pleasant touch and precision workmanship produce a level of perceived quality that is rare even in higher vehicle classes. Numerous AMG-specific controls underscore the motor sport heritage. As an alternative to the standard sports seats in ARTICO/microfiber DINAMICA, Performance seats are also available, which offer occupants a lower seating position and more aggressively contoured bolsters for increased lateral support.

Top on performance
The AMG C63 Coupe occupies an exceptional status among the competition, being the only vehicle in the segment to boast an 8-cylinder biturbo engine. Mercedes AMG thus meets the wishes of those customers who desire a combination of a highly emotional, unmistakable engine sound with torquey power delivery.

The driver also benefits from unrivaled performance: the C63 S Coupe accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, and the C63 Coupe in 3.9 seconds. This makes the Coupe just a fraction faster than the Sedan – thanks to the wider tires and shorter-legged rear-axle ratios. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph on the C63 Coupe, and 180 mph on the C63 S Coupe

New V-8 biturbo closely related to the engine in the Mercedes-AMG GT
The 4.0-liter 8-cylinder biturbo engine is already used in the C63 Sedan and in the AMG GT S sports car (with dry sump lubrication). This engine features two turbochargers positioned in-between the engine’s cylinder banks, otherwise known as a “hot inside V.” The main advantages of this design are the compact engine construction, optimal response and low exhaust gas emissions.

Exhaust system with flap technology for variable engine sound
The iconic V-8 engine sound was specially tailored for the C63 Coupe. A model-specific exhaust system with flap technology is equipped as standard. It is automatically map-controlled depending on the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission mode, the power demanded by the driver and engine speed. The engine sound varies between a discreet note suitable for long-distance driving and more robust and emotional sound. Optionally available is the Performance exhaust system, which allows the exhaust note to be modulated at the press of a button.

Faster gearshifts: the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sport transmission
The transmission plays a major part in the direct and sporty character of the new Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sport transmission impresses with its tailor-made dynamics and high variability. Whether automatic or initiated by the driver using the steering wheel shift paddles, upshifts and downshifts are executed noticeably faster than in the previous model. This increased response time is made possible by an even sportier set-up of the engine and transmission parameters.

Specially developed suspension for maximum lateral and longitudinal dynamics
The impressive agility and high cornering speed of the C63 Coupe are thanks to the completely redesigned suspension. A four-link front suspension with radial, racing style brake connections is used with model-specific steering knuckles and a wider track, allowing for greater lateral acceleration. The rear axle has also been completely redesigned for the Coupe. The multi-link concept impresses with highly precise wheel control and increased stiffness. The AMG-specific rear axle carrier makes the increased track width possible; the contact surfaces of the wheel bearings were moved about an inch (25 mm) further towards the outside when compared with the Sedan. Other measures include AMG-specific wheel carriers, stiffer elastokinematic tuning and higher negative camber.

With the AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with adjustable damping, the customer can choose between maximum sportiness and excellent long-distance comfort in three stages, all at the press of a button.

Rear-axle limited-slip differential: optimal traction for both road and track
For improved traction and vehicle dynamics, the C63 Coupe is equipped with a mechanical rear-axle limited-slip differential, while the C63 S Coupe comes with an electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential. Both differentials reduce the slip on the inside wheel when cornering without control interventions in the braking system, allowing the driver to accelerate out of corners earlier thanks to the improved traction. Other benefits include increased stability under heavy braking and improved traction upon acceleration. The model-specific, completely redesigned rear axle was specially adapted to the higher vehicle dynamics of the Coupe.

The greatest benefit of the electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential – installed as standard on the C63 S – is the even more precise and faster control, which further raises the critical limit of drivability. The 3-stage ESP® with “ESP ON”, “ESP SPORT Handling Mode” and “ESP OFF” settings works in perfect unison with the rear-axle limited-slip differential and is optimally tuned for the C63 Coupe’s outstanding driving dynamics.

AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes
The driver is able to influence the characteristics of the C63 with four different AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes, with the C63 S receiving the additional “Race” mode. The driver is able to choose a desired driving experience, from comfortable and economical to super-sporty, all from a controller to the left of the touchpad. An “Individual” mode can be configured by the driver, offering maximum customizability.

C63 S with dynamic engine mounts as standard
Unique in its segment, the C63 S Coupe – like the Sedan – is equipped with dynamic engine mounts. These help to further resolve the conflicting aims of comfort and dynamic performance. Soft engine mounts improve comfort, as they provide more effective decoupling of noise and vibration, however, handling and agility benefit from a generally stiffer mount set-up. Dynamic mounts are instantly and variably able to adapt their stiffness to the driving conditions and requirements of the driver. These measures enhance the vehicle’s precision when driven dynamically. For example, the steering response and feedback are even more direct.

Safety of the highest caliber
The C63 Coupe offers a supreme level of safety coming standard with ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, which helps to prevent rear-end collisions. Many other optional assistance systems are available to increase both comfort and safety.

The all-new MY2017 C300 and C300 4MATIC Coupe

Seduction of the heart and mind

Stuttgart – 08.20.2015 – Athletic and sporty, the vivid, sensual design of the new C-Class Coupe cuts a fine figure on the road and embodies modern luxury. At the same time, its interior raises elegance and style to a sporty level. Lightweight construction to reduce weight, excellent aerodynamics, and a dynamically-configured chassis, with optional air suspension, form the basis for a high level of suspension comfort, low road noise and tire vibration, agile handling, and driving pleasure. New assistance systems provide safety of the very highest caliber. With its high-class appeal and generous interior, the new C-Class Coupe sets new standards in its segment. It arrives at U.S. dealers in Spring of 2016.

“Our new C-Class Coupe continues the philosophy of our exciting coupes. It combines thrilling design with agile sportiness and modern luxury. The C-Class Coupe therefore clearly pledges itself to stylish driving enjoyment,” states Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber, member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.

As the sportiest variant of the C-Class, the Coupe displays its driving enjoyment-oriented character in an emotional and at the same time formally distinct design. A sportily striking front section featuring diamond radiator grille and long hood – the new Coupe is 2.4 inches (60mm) longer than its predecessor between the firewall and front axle alone – gives way to a low greenhouse whose lines flow into a bold and powerful-looking rear end incorporating the Mercedes coupe genes. A high beltline and frameless doors with free-standing exterior mirrors underscore the sporty character.

Clean lines and sensually arranged surfaces structure the side sections into vivid light and shadow effects. One particular highlight is the long, drawn-out dropping line typical of a coupe. In contrast to the C-Class Sedan, the dropping line extends further past the rear wheel arch. To underscore the Coupe’s sporty disposition, the suspension is .6 inches (15mm) lower than that of the Sedan, making it a very sporty proposition when combined with the standard 18-inch wheels.

Interior: generous, dynamic, exquisite
The interior is likewise a statement of the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy and combines emotion with intelligence. Although it exudes athletic and youthful charm, it has grown in maturity. Driver and passengers enjoy an ambience that leans toward the interior of the C-Class Sedan, yet raises it to a new, sporty level. Flowing forms characterize the center console as well as the door and rear side paneling, which smoothly merge into one another to emphasize the coupe character. The individually designed trim elements underscore the sporty character of the interior. A seating system including integral sports seats designed specifically for the Coupe offers sporty comfort, while the standard automatic belt feeder offers additional convenience. The choice of materials and the finish have a hand-crafted feel with high-class appeal and deliver a new take on modern luxury: sportiness without compromising on comfort and exquisite style.

With a 3.1 inch (80mm) longer wheelbase, the C-Class Coupe is 3.7 inches (95 mm) longer and 1.6 inches (40 mm) wider. The increased vehicle volume above all creates more spaciousness for the driver and front passenger. There is more shoulder room, elbow room and headroom in all seats.

The unique interior of the new C-Class Coupe is emphasized by the special upholstery color combinations: saddle brown, porcelain and – in the Edition 1 – nut brown/black with turquoise topstitching.

Individual highlights
The C-Class Coupe features a wealth of equipment as standard, including LED headlights, PRE-SAFE®, KEYLESS START, Sport Suspension and a Panorama Sunroof.

The Sport Appearance Package is available as an alternative to further underline the dynamism of the Coupe. It differs by virtue of exterior features such as special bumpers and sills featuring AMG body-styling, a diamond radiator grille with pins in chrome and 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels. Interior highlights of the Sport Package include exclusive  touches such as a sports steering wheel with flattened bottom section and AMG sports pedals.

Suspension – sportily agile and comfortable
The suspension offers a high level of comfort with low road noise and tire vibration while ensuring agile driving dynamics – the basis for driving enjoyment.

A new 4-link front axle with wheel suspension decoupled from the spring strut plays a part in the agile handling characteristics. This enables sporty axle kinematics for plenty of grip and high lateral stability. As a result, the suspension responds more sensitively to steering movements and allows a sporty, agile driving style. Multi-link independent rear suspension with 5 links ensures excellent wheel location qualities and supreme straight-line stability.

A steel sport suspension with tauter springs and damping is standard, lowering the Coupe by .6 inches (15mm) compared to the Sedan.

Air suspension
The Coupe comes with the option of AIRMATIC air suspension on the front and rear axle. Its electronically controlled, continuously adjustable damping on the front and rear axle ensures outstanding road noise and tire vibration characteristics in every situation and gives the driver the option of selecting the desired driving style: sporty, comfortable or consumption-optimized. To this end, the driver can select one of five driving modes using the DYNAMIC SELECT Switch: “ECO”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport +” and “Individual.” Selecting “Individual” allows the driver to customize the vehicle settings. AIRMATIC also features all-round self-leveling for excellent ride comfort even with the vehicle loaded.

Efficient and lively engine
The C300 Coupe comes equipped with a powerful and efficient 2.0L, four-cylinder gas engine delivering 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, providing sporty performance and enhanced driving pleasure.

Lighter, stiffer and stronger
Intelligent lightweight construction with a higher proportion of aluminum helps make the Coupe lighter than its predecessor. Light-alloy components include the fenders, hood  and trunk lid. At the same time, the body is now much stiffer and stronger thanks to the use of high-strength materials, which has a positive effect on not only driving dynamics and noise levels but also crash safety. The Coupe therefore follows a Mercedes-Benz tradition in adhering to the most stringent of internal Mercedes-Benz safety requirements based on what happens in real-life accidents.

Safe semi-autonomous driving to reduce stress
There are several safety and assistance systems based on the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive concept to choose from. ATTENTION ASSIST with adjustable sensitivity, which can warn the driver of inattentiveness and drowsiness, is included as standard. Further standard equipment includes COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, which features an acoustic warning for the driver at speeds above 4 mph and Adaptive Brake Assist to help avoid collisions by boosting the braking effect in line with the current situation. When danger of a collision persists and the driver fails to respond, the system is able to carry out autonomous braking at speeds of up to 124 mph, thereby reducing the severity of collisions with slower or stopping vehicles or, in the best-case scenario, even avoiding the collision altogether. At speeds of up to 31 mph the system also brakes in response to stationary vehicles, and is thus able to help prevent rear-end collisions.

New assistance systems with substantially enhanced functions are optionally available, combining data from various sensor technologies such as radar sensors and a stereo camera as part of the Intelligent Drive concept to enhance comfort and safety:

• DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist is an adaptive cruise control system that can adjust the speed of the vehicle in line with a slower-moving vehicle ahead in a speed range from 0 to 124 mph if required. Likewise available from 0 to 124 mph, steering intervention helps the driver stay in lane. And at speeds below 81 mph, for example in traffic jams or when driving bumper to bumper, the system can follow the vehicle ahead even where there are no or unclear lane markings, thus enabling the driver to safety and comfortably follow the flow of traffic.

• As well as vehicles ahead and stationary vehicles, the BAS PLUS Brake Assist System can also detect crossing traffic and boost the braking force if the driver fails to apply the brakes sufficiently; in addition to slower-moving, stopping and stationary vehicles, the PRE-SAFE® Brake can even detect pedestrians and brake autonomously if the driver fails to react, thus preventing accidents up to 31 mph and mitigating the severity of collisions at speeds of up to 45 mph. In flowing traffic the PRE-SAFE® Brake provides assistance according to the same mode of operation throughout the speed range from 4 to 124 mph.

• Enhanced Active Lane Keeping Assist can now also prevent the vehicle from unintentionally drifting out of lane by applying the brakes on one side when the lane markings are solid or broken and there is a risk of collision, e.g. as a result of vehicles overtaking at high speed, parallel traffic or even oncoming traffic.

• PRE-SAFE® PLUS extends the Intelligent Drive functions to take account of imminent rear impacts. It warns the following traffic by activating the rear hazard warning lights at increased frequency and initiating preventive PRE-SAFE® occupant protection measures such as the reversible belt tensioner immediately prior to the impact. If the vehicle is stationary, the brakes are locked to reduce the forward jolt, which reduces the forces acting on the occupants and the risk of secondary collisions.

Optional assistance systems also include:
• Active Parking Assist, which enables semi-automated parking with active steering and brake intervention in both parallel and end-on parking spaces

• A 360° camera which is able to show the vehicle and its surroundings from various perspectives, including a virtual bird’s-eye view, thus assisting with parking and maneuvering

Airbags for safety

In addition to 3-point seat belts with pyrotechnical belt tensioning and belt-force limitation for driver, front passenger and rear passengers, numerous airbags serve to protect the vehicle’s occupants in an accident. These include:

• Frontal protection systems: Adaptive front airbags for driver and front passenger, additionally with a kneebag on the driver’s side

• Side protection systems: Thorax/pelvisbags for driver and front passenger plus front and rear windowbags, with rear sidebags available as an option climate control with satellite navigation

The air conditioning system in the new C-Class Coupe operates efficiently and ensures high air quality. As in the Sedan, it uses satellite navigation to detect tunnels. It therefore closes the air recirculation flap automatically when entering a tunnel and opens it again after exiting a tunnel.

Vibrant infotainment
A completely new multimedia generation offers intuitive operation in the new C-Class Coupe, featuring elaborate animations and visual effects which present all the functions in a clear and highly attractive manner. The new C-Class is also equipped with the unique Frontbass system. This avant-garde acoustic system uses the space within the cross-member and side member in the body structure as a resonance chamber for the bass speakers to conjure up a listening experience almost on a par with a concert hall. A Burmester® surround sound system is optionally available.

The navigation system presents its contents in interactive mode. Its features include an animated compass, a “Drive Show” with information for passengers similar to the onscreen presentations on board airplanes and Google Maps displayed on the head unit.

In-car technology
COMAND offers a larger display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and a special bonded glass cover such as is familiar from consumer devices like the iPhone or iPad. The new C-Class will also include mbrace2 connected car technology, including the available option to have over twenty Mercedes-Benz Apps integrated into the COMAND system.

The new Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG 4MATIC

Affalterbach. Driving Performance – the AMG brand promise and the typical character traits can now be experienced by an even broader target group. The new C450 AMG 4MATIC expands the product range of the performance and sports car brand of Mercedes-Benz with another new AMG sports model. As an attractive entry into the world of AMG, the C450 AMG 4MATIC combines a 362 horsepower 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with a permanent Performance all-wheel-drive system and sophisticated suspension technology adopted from the Mercedes-AMG C63. The result is fascinating Driving Performance and the hallmark emotional expressiveness of the brand. The new C450 AMG 4MATIC will further bolster the already extensive and highly compelling C-Class product line-up when it launches in the U.S. market in the fall of 2015.

The new AMG sports models are distinguished by convincing product substance. Even at first glance, the characteristic AMG body styling leaves no doubt that this model is part of the Mercedes-AMG model family. Another indication for the new model strategy is found in the form of a special AMG badge on the front fenders. From an engineering standpoint the AMG sports models perfectly deliver on the visual promise of a sporty character with a powerful engine, the standard-fit all-wheel drive system with rear-biased torque split, and sophisticated suspension solutions.

In addition to the Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG 4MATIC Coupe, the C450 AMG 4MATIC represents the second stage of the new model initiative. More emotionally inspiring AMG sports models will follow.

Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH explains: “With the C450 AMG we present the second sporty and emotionally expressive vehicle in our product line. It combines the power of a strong twin-turbo V6 engine with a high level of emotional expressiveness, and avails itself of the technical DNA of the new C63. The new sports models represent a convincing proposition for our customers: sports car technology and motor racing fascination become more attainable and in the process appeal to a broader customer base.”

Authentic driving dynamics thanks to hallmark AMG DNA

The new C450 AMG 4MATIC is based on the most powerful production model of the C-Class, the C400 4MATIC. The engineers have revised many technical features of the new AMG sports model. Their objective: a high level of authentic driving dynamics geared towards the Mercedes-AMG C63. To this end, a host of suspension components were adopted from the top-of-the-line V8 model. The driver also feels the DNA of the C63 in the application of the engine and transmission management. Agility and sportiness dominate the intense driving experience in the C450 AMG 4MATIC on every mile.

The new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine is part of the BlueDIRECT engine family from Mercedes-Benz. Technical advances including a modified boost pressure allowed the AMG engineers to increase the engine’s power output and torque. With 362 horsepower and 384 lb/ft of torque, the V6 engine sets new standards in its segment. This is clearly evident in the convincing vehicle performance: a sprint time from zero to 60 mph of 4.9 seconds underscores the sporty temperament of the C450 AMG 4MATIC. In addition, the highly fuel efficient engine of the new top-of-the-line V6 model defines an absolute top position in the competitive environment.

Supreme or dynamic: the choice is yours

Thanks to a hefty torque curve the new AMG sports model is agile, direct and dynamic. With the help of various AMG-specific drive programs the driver is able to tailor the character of the C450 AMG 4MATIC to his or her personal preferences: the modes “Eco”, “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus” as well as “Individual” are available to choose from for this purpose. The drive programs adjust the suspension, steering and powertrain as desired, and are selected conveniently with the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT switch to the left of the touchpad.

The “Sport Plus” program delivers particularly impressive hallmark AMG dynamics and enhances the emotional appeal: partial cylinder suppression during gear changes by means of a momentary and precisely defined retardation of ignition and injection under full throttle speeds up the gear changes, and can also be acoustically experienced by the driver. The emotional double-declutching function during downshifts and the “exhaust rumbling” in overrun mode provide the fitting accompaniment. The throaty engine sound – a hallmark AMG experience – also plays a crucial role in the most powerful V6 model. To this end, the engineers have developed a new sports exhaust system with lower back-pressure and reduced weight.

The driving sensation is also characterized by the setup of the accelerator pedal. The more the driver changes the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT settings from “Eco” towards “Sport Plus”, the more spontaneous and dynamic the throttle response of the twin-turbo V6 engine. The driver also experiences authentic and emotional dynamics during engine start if desired. When the twin-turbo V6 engine is started in the “Sport Plus” drive program, the engine speed quickly jumps to 2000 rpm for a moment before immediately settling back down to idle speed. Whether the driver wants to experience the engine start accompanied by a sporty or a more subdued sound depends on the most recently activated drive program – it remains stored for four hours.

The “Eco” program integrates an ECO start/stop function and a sailing function to reduce fuel consumption: when the driver releases the accelerator in a speed range between 37 – 99 mph, the clutch of the transmission is disengaged and the engine is decoupled from the powertrain. The electronics reduce the engine speed to idle level, and the driving resistance is reduced by the compression and frictional forces of the engine in overrun mode.

7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission with short response times

The 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission responds with superior composure or maximum spontaneity depending on the driver’s preference and selected drive program. The “Sport Plus” mode delivers thrillingly short response times. The driver’s shift commands are implemented at lightning speed – the drivetrain responds spontaneously and precisely. The development engineers also take advantage of numerous hardware and software solutions of the C63 in this regard. The ‘M’ button on the center console allows savoring the high pulling power across the entire rev range. In manual transmission mode the 7G-TRONIC PLUS no longer shifts to the next higher gear on its own, not even when prompted by kick-down or upon reaching the redline speed. The driver alone makes the decisions about his or her shift request via the steering wheel paddle shifters.

The momentary ‘M’ mode offers another feature: it combines the performance of manual gear changes with automatic upshifts and downshifts. The driver has the option to shift up or down at any time with the paddle shifters. If no gear change is requested, the transmission independently reverts to the automatic shift mode after a defined period of time has passed.

The 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission features a dual-turbine torsional damper with speed-sensitive centrifugal pendulum, which minimizes vibrations and enhances the passengers’ perceived comfort.

AMG Adaptive sports suspension with special axles and adjustable dampers

Agility and sportiness: in the new C450 AMG 4MATIC the driver can experience why AMG has been successful in motor racing as the sports car and performance brand of Mercedes-Benz for more than four decades. The basis for this intense experience is the combination of the permanent Performance allwheel-drive system and the AMG Adaptive sports suspension. The 3-stage damper adjustment borrows from the top-of-the-line V8 model Mercedes-AMG C63, and combines high agility with superior everyday practicality.

The highlight of the AMG Adaptive sports suspension is the combination of independently developed axle components with high aluminum content and electronically controlled shock absorbers with 3-stage adjustment range. The driver of a C450 AMG 4MATIC can select his or her tailor-made suspension setup at the push of a button. The range spans from balanced long-distance comfort to maximum sportiness.

The technical substance of the AMG Adaptive sports suspension is characterized by components with sophisticated design: the four-link front axle is fitted with special steering knuckles and load-bearing joints, while all components were optimized in terms of rigidity. A more negative camber on the front axle and on the multi-link rear axle enhances lateral dynamics. Stiffening of the body shell improves steering behavior, feedback during cornering, and tire noise. The elastokinematics of both axles were designed to be more rigid in general. All these measures improve the precision and agility, and boost the dynamics. In addition, the driver benefits from reduced body roll, higher lateral acceleration, better traction, and strong neutral handling at the limit. In short: the C450 AMG 4MATIC is a very agile sports model on one hand, while optimized pull-rods and front-axle carrier mounts ensure the hallmark Mercedes long-distance comfort on the other.

Optimal traction thanks to Performance all-wheel drive

The all-wheel-drive system familiar from a number of AMG high-performance cars is also being used in the C450 AMG 4MATIC. The perfect grip during acceleration effectively prevents losses caused by slip. For thrilling driving dynamics 33 percent of the engine power is sent to the front axle and 67 percent to the rear axle. The rear-biased torque split results in higher agility around the vehicle’s vertical axis. Another major factor in this is the sportier setup of the ESP® with Curve Dynamic Assist. The tangible effects for sporty drivers are lateral dynamics and cornering performance increased to an above average level.

Steering and braking system support a dynamic driving style

The electro-mechanical speed-sensitive sports steering supports tracking a precise line and a dynamic driving style. The agile handling benefits from the direct and constant AMG-specific steering ratio including optimized tuning and response. The steering forces are adapted electronically to the given vehicle speed in optimal fashion. In addition, the optimal steering characteristics are selected depending on the activated drive program – in the “Sport” and “Sport Plus” modes to deliver a sporty steering feel for a dynamic driving style on twisty roads or to deliver a comfortable steering feel in the “Eco” or “Comfort” modes. The “Individual” program offers an additional choice. For example, it allows combining sporty firm steering characteristics with a comfortable suspension set-up – or vice-versa.

The sports braking system of the C450 AMG 4MATIC impresses with fade-free and effective stopping power. Vented brake discs at all four corners measuring 14.2 inches in diameter at the front and 12.6 inches at the rear as well as gray brake calipers with “Mercedes-Benz” lettering are all part of the standard equipment.

Design elements bear typical AMG signature

The fascination of motor racing in everyday life – the C450 AMG 4MATIC incorporates this combination visually as well. The second AMG sports model immediately demonstrates that it is part of the unique AMG family. Dominating design elements are the AMG body styling, the light-alloy wheels and the special AMG badge on the front fenders. They underscore the progressive nature and performance of the brand. The engine cover features a red aluminum insert to reinforce the strengths of the new twin-turbo six-cylinder engine.

The AMG body styling includes the front bumper with sporty distinctive air intakes, diamond meshes, silver chrome trim, as well as a matt iridium silver diffuser insert in the rear bumper. The sedan is equipped with a separation edge on the trunk lid to additionally increase grip on the rear axle.

Silver chrome and high-gloss black exterior elements lend the C450 AMG 4MATIC a sporty-expressive character. The radiator grille features a high-gloss black louver and chrome inserts. The diamond grille adorned with chrome pins adds special flair. Additional highlights are the black exterior mirror housings, the high-gloss black waistline trim strip and window frame, and the two chrome-plated dual tailpipe trim elements.

Customers can opt for the complementary Night package, which adds highgloss black front bumper trim, a high-gloss black diffuser-look insert at the rear, and two black chrome-plated dual tailpipe trim elements.

5-spoke black AMG light-alloy wheels with a high-sheen finish round out the design perfectly. Size 225/45 R 18 tires on 7.5 x 18 light-alloy wheels are fitted at the front, while the rear axle comes with 245/40 R 18 tires on 8.5 x 18 wheels. Interior with exclusive, sporty flair

The C450 AMG 4MATIC fascinates with exclusivity and sportiness in the interior as well. The pleasant touch and feel of the materials and the quality of workmanship ensure a convincing value appeal and an emotional passenger experience.

The MB-Tex/DINAMICA upholstery and the instrument panel trimmed with black MB-Tex man-made leather convey the sporty ambience in superior fashion. MB-Tex is also used on the upper edges of the body, the armrests, the door center panels and the center console. Red contrasting topstitching, designo red safety belts and black floor mats with red edging add attractive highlights. The aluminum trim pieces with light-tone longitudinal grain embedded in the instrument panel and the doors provide effective contrasts.

Sports seats with AMG-specific seat upholstery layout and pronounced lateral support offer long-distance comfort and brace the passengers during dynamic cornering. A fitting complement to the sporty handling is the 3-spoke Nappa leather multifunction sports steering wheel with flat bottom. Thoughtful details such as red contrasting topstitching, a molded grip area, steering-wheel paddle shifters and silver chrome steering wheel trim round out the aggressively styled interior.

In typical AMG style, the instrument cluster also features dials in the sporty “checkered flag” design, a 175 mph speedometer scale, red speedometer needles and a specific typography.

Intelligent Drive: safety of the very highest caliber

The declared goal of Mercedes-Benz is making top-class safety available to everyone. The C450 AMG 4MATIC lives up to this standard because it adopts many of the new and significantly enhanced assistance systems that are also being used in the S-Class. It comes standard-equipped with the further enhanced ATTENTION ASSIST fatigue detection system and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, which helps prevent rear-end collisions. These sophisticated assistance systems enhance both comfort and safety. The predecessor to the new C-Class already impressed with excellent results regarding passive safety. The current model surpasses it and sets new standards.
